Wildfire-Ready Gutters

Wildfire-Ready Gutters in Colorado Springs

Got a wildfire risk score from your insurance company? We help homeowners meet the gutter requirements of the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home standard: metal gutters, kept clean, with metal gutter guards.

What changed in Colorado

Under a new Colorado law (HB25-1182), since October 1, 2026 insurance companies that use wildfire risk models have to send homeowners their wildfire risk score at renewal and take qualified home mitigation into account, such as the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home designation. Some insurers now offer discounts for it. For example, CSAA (AAA's insurer) offers up to 15% off the wildfire portion of the premium for homes with a Wildfire Prepared Home Essential or Enhanced designation (Colorado Division of Insurance).

Where gutters come in

Embers collect in dry leaves and pine needles in gutters, right at the edge of your roof. That's why the Wildfire Prepared Home standard includes gutters:

  • Essential: noncombustible (metal) gutters and downspouts, kept clear of debris.
  • Enhanced: adds noncombustible gutter covers or guards.

How we help

Metal gutters

Replace vinyl or worn gutters with new metal gutters and downspouts.

Metal gutter guards

Noncombustible guards that keep needles and leaves out.

Cleaning

Clear out debris so your gutters stay ready.

Chris will look at what you have now, tell you what meets the gutter part of the standard, and give you a free estimate. You keep the paperwork and photos for your application or your agent.

Optional add-on: fire-retardant deck & fence treatment

If you have a wood deck, fence or pergola, we can add a fire-retardant treatment while we're already staining. It's meant to help slow ignition from embers and sparks. It's an extra layer, not a replacement for anything on the checklist.

DekGard in your deck stain

A fire-retardant additive mixed into the deck stain we apply. It doesn't change the stain color. Re-treat each time the deck is re-stained.

Flame Stop II clear treatment

A clear treatment for bare or stripped wood decks, fences and pergolas. It soaks into the wood, and it can be stained over once it cures. Plan to renew it every few years.

  • It wears off. Sun, weather and our altitude break these treatments down, so they need renewing at each re-stain or every few years.
  • It doesn't count toward Wildfire Prepared Home and won't earn an insurance discount. IBHS treats wood decks and fences as combustible even when they're treated.
  • It isn't code compliance. A new or rebuilt deck in a Colorado Springs wildfire zone has to meet the city's decking rules. The treatment is for existing wood.
  • Pricing: it depends on the size and condition of the wood. Ask Chris for a free estimate.

To be clear: we don't certify homes and we can't guarantee an insurance discount. The designation comes from IBHS after an independent evaluation, and discounts are up to your insurer. We help you meet the gutter requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Does A Visible Difference certify my home?

No. The Wildfire Prepared Home designation comes from IBHS, and an independent evaluator checks your home. We install and maintain the gutter items on that checklist. You can learn more and apply at wildfireprepared.org.

Will this lower my insurance premium?

We can't promise that. Discounts depend on your insurance company, your policy, and whether your whole home qualifies. Gutters are one item on the checklist, not the whole list. Ask your insurance agent which mitigation steps count for your policy.

What gutters qualify?

The Wildfire Prepared Home standard calls for noncombustible gutters, like metal, kept clear of debris. The Enhanced level also calls for noncombustible gutter covers or guards. Vinyl or plastic gutters don't meet it.

Does a fire-retardant deck stain or treatment count toward Wildfire Prepared Home?

No. IBHS doesn't give credit for fire-retardant coatings, and as far as we know no insurer gives a discount for them. We offer them only as an optional extra layer on existing wood. They need renewing at each re-stain or every few years.

What else does the checklist cover?

Things like a Class A roof, ember-resistant vents, a noncombustible zone right around the house, and defensible space. We focus on the gutters, and we'll tell you honestly what's outside our trade.

How much will my project cost?

Every home and project is different, so we don't publish one-size-fits-all prices. Chris will give you a free estimate based on your specific project. Call (719) 648-5806 to set it up.

What paint do you use?

We use Sherwin-Williams® paint — premium coatings for lasting color.

What are your payment terms?

We ask for 50% down to get your project on the schedule. We accept Venmo, Cash App, Chime, Cash, and check.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our work is backed by a 10-year warranty. Chris can explain the coverage for your specific project when he gives your estimate.
